Adding a trusted contact to your Charles Schwab account is a simple but powerful way to protect your finances and give both Schwab and your loved ones tools to help you — especially if there’s ever a time when you can’t help yourself.
Here’s why it’s beneficial:
Fraud & Exploitation Protection
If Schwab notices unusual account activity or suspects you’re being financially exploited, they’re allowed to reach out to your trusted contact to help safeguard your assets.
Support in a Crisis
If there’s an emergency — cognitive decline, accident, disappearance, natural disaster — Schwab can contact your trusted person to help reach you or make sure you’re OK.
No Control Over Your Money
Importantly, adding a trusted contact does not give that person any access to transact, view balances, or make decisions on your account. They’re simply a point of contact that Schwab can turn to if something seems off.
Bottom Line
Think of a trusted contact as part of your financial “emergency contact” list — a key layer of protection that costs nothing and preserves your control while giving Schwab a way to step in if your wellbeing or assets are at risk.
1. To add a Trusted Contact:
2. Log in to Schwab.com.
3. Click the Profile icon in the top-right corner.
4. Select “Trusted Contact” from the dropdown menu. Fill in the info for someone you trust—like a family member or close friend.
Note: This change only applies to an individual profile. You and your spouse or partner will each need to log in and add a Trusted Contact to your individual profiles. If one of you doesn’t have a Schwab login yet, just let us know—we’re happy to help you get set up.
