If you are married or in a relationship, you may have already discovered that opposites often attract. Many of us find ourselves partnered with someone who views money, spending, and saving differently than we do. These differences can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts if not addressed with empathy and understanding. 😩

Understanding Your Differences 🤔

When it comes to money, our values, beliefs, and priorities can be shaped by our upbringing, personal experiences, and even our personalities. One of us might prioritize saving for the future, while the other enjoys spending on experiences and living in the moment. Neither approach is wrong, but finding common ground is essential for a harmonious financial future.

First Step: Complete the Core Values Exercise 🎴

The first step to getting on the same page is to understand and respect each other’s core values. To help you open this crucial conversation, we’re offering a complimentary Core Values Exercise. This simple yet powerful exercise will guide you and your partner/spouse through identifying and aligning your core values, paving the way for better communication and joint decision-making around money.

Each of you will individually complete the Core Values Exercise identifying your top 5 core values. By dedicating just, a little time to this exercise, you can uncover what truly matters to both of you, helping you to create a shared vision with your finances for both today and tomorrow. This shared vision will serve as a foundation for more informed and understandable spending behaviors.

Our Personal Spending Issues! 💰

I want to share a bit of my own story with you. My husband Gary and I have been married for 28 years, and we are extremely different in how we approach life. Despite our differences, we discovered through this exercise that we share the same top three values: spirituality, health, and relationships. However, our fourth and fifth values differ significantly, which has sometimes caused friction when dealing with finances and life decisions. I want to spend money on home decorating, and he wants to spend money on everything tech! We have had to learn to respect each other’s spending differences and allow each of us to have a spending plan that reflects our individual values. Not easy…I’ve learned the hard way….🤯

After the “I’m sorry” conversations ❤️‍🩹, what we’ve learned is that core values are fundamental principles that people cannot live without. If these values are compromised, marital issues are likely to arise. It’s crucial to respect your partner’s values to achieve a fulfilling and happy marriage. Misaligned values are a common reason for divorce, so understanding each other’s core values can help prevent conflicts and strengthen your relationship.

Trust me… save yourself from the next money 💵 fight 🤺 by truly understanding your partner and start building your today and tomorrow in alignment with each other.
